Top 4 Tips for Glowing Skin: Nourish, Cleanse, Exfoliate, and Protect

Top 4 Tips for Glowing Skin: Nourish, Cleanse, Exfoliate, and Protect | Makes Scents Natural Spa Line | Lancaster PA

The skin is our largest organ, and it deserves some serious TLC. Not only does it keep us hydrated and protect us from harmful microbes, but it also helps us feel sensations like heat, cold, and pain. Plus, it regulates our body temperature and even produces vitamin D when we’re in the sun. Pretty amazing, right? In honor of National Healthy Skin Month, I’m sharing my top four skincare tips that I swear by. Check them out below!

Nourish

You are what you eat, and this couldn’t be truer for your skin. Eating foods rich in essential fatty acids is key to nourishing both your body and your skin. These acids help reduce inflammation, boost collagen synthesis, and build healthy skin cells. So, start incorporating these goodies into your diet for firmer, healthier skin:

  • Hemp
  • Flax
  • Walnuts
  • Almonds
  • Dark green leafy veggies like broccoli and spinach
  • Olive oil
  • Whole grains

Cleanse, Cleanse, Cleanse

I know, washing your face at the end of a long day can feel like a chore, but it’s so worth it. Cleansing removes dirt and grime, preventing breakouts and allowing your nighttime products to work their magic. Plus, your skin does most of its repair work while you sleep, so why not give it a clean slate to start with?

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is one of my favorite skincare steps. It leaves my skin feeling fresh and looking radiant. By removing the top layer of dead skin cells, exfoliation not only softens and brightens your skin but also preps it for better absorption of subsequent products. Follow up with a vitamin C serum or moisturizer for a win-win in your skincare routine.

Protect

After cleansing and especially after exfoliating, protecting your skin is crucial. Use a paraben-free moisturizer and a broad-spectrum SPF (SPF 30 or higher) to keep your skin youthful and protected. Apply generously to your face, neck, and ears, and don’t forget to reapply if you’re outside for extended periods.

We’d love to hear from you! Share your favorite part of your skincare routine in the comments below.

  4. Hello Katherine! Thank you so much for reaching out! There are so many really good cleansers for sensitive skin. I would suggest taking a look at the directory on the Leaping Bunny website for a list of companies who produce ethically made, cruelty-free products. You can download the cruelty-free shopping guide at the link below which will list all the certified cruelty-free companies. You can also download the Leaping Bunny app on your smart phone and then search for a brand by the product category, such as “Face Care” under the “Personal Care” area. It is a FANTASTIC app! I’ve heard a lot of good things about Juice Beauty and Tata Harper. I am using Sothys currently for my facial care products, along with formulating our own in-house products, just for our in-house team. I hope this information helps and please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks again! ~ Heather

Also, look for a line of products that contain essential oils and is paraben and sulfate-free.
